Our Community
Community Gatherings
The Northeast Louisiana Emmaus Community meets on the second Saturday of each month except for the months when a Walk is scheduled.
What is an Emmaus Gathering?
A Gathering is made up of individuals in a local area who have attended a Walk to Emmaus. Gatherings are held at area churches throughout our community. We meet as a small group at 6:30 pm for praise and worship, followed by a Fourth Day speaker and communion. Potluck fellowship immediately follows the service. We also participate in supporting Emmaus Walks by sponsoring pilgrims, serving on a team and performing various acts of agape.
Why Do We Gather Together?
The narrative in Luke 24:13-35 recounts the account of two followers of Jesus journeying from Jerusalem to Emmaus. During their walk, they candidly discussed the recent events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion. Along the path, an unfamiliar individual accompanied them, elucidating scriptures and disclosing how they foretold Jesus’ suffering and subsequent glorification alongside the Father. As they reached their destination, the disciples invited the stranger to dine with them. It was during this meal that the stranger’s true identity was unveiled as he blessed, broke, and distributed the bread, revealing himself as the resurrected Christ. Their eyes were opened to this realization, prompting them to hasten back to Jerusalem to share the joyful news with others. Further insights into the origin of the term “Walk to Emmaus” can be found on The Upper Room’s website.
Will Your Church Host a Gathering?
Please pray about hosting a Gathering at your church. It’s easy to plan and we have all the tools to help you. Gatherings are a great way to keep everyone in the Northeast Louisiana Emmaus Community connected and allow new members of our community to meet, form reunion groups, worship together, and fellowship. It is also a PERFECT time to introduce potential pilgrims to Emmaus!
